Vocational Teacher Education (60 ECTS)
Vocational Teacher Education (Professional Teacher Education) provides the pedagogical qualification for teaching your specific subject in Finland.
Teaching, or rather, facilitating learning, is a challenging yet rewarding career choice for professionals from different fields of expertise. Our studies at JAMK’s Teacher Education College are designed to meet the needs of adult students: the mode of study is flexible, we utilize digital learning environments, and each student is able to tailor their studies individually. Completion of this flexible post-degree programme usually takes 1-2 years. The programme is primarily recommended for those whose mother tongue is not Finnish but is open to anyone else who wants to increase their international skills.
The Teacher Education programme consists of 60 credits (corresponding to one year of full-time study) and includes:
- basic studies in educational sciences
- vocational pedagogy studies
- teaching practice
- other studies.
The curriculum of the programme is based on interconnected competence areas: facilitating learning, creating future and developing the teacher identity.

Section 1 - Teacher Training Programme
This course promotes the student’s facilitating learning skills, learning environment skills, interaction skills, agency skills and reflection skills. The course covers the Teaching practice of Vocational Teacher Education.
The learning tasks of the Lifelong Leaning course will lead you to observe learning as a phenomenon.
You can acquire the competence required by this course by participating in the online course and doing the learning tasks in it.
With the learning tasks of this course, you will improve your reflective skills, agency skills and interaction skills. You will find the learning assignments of this course in the Optima online learning environment before the orientation days.
In this course, we will assess future skills and reflective skills. The tools for assessing the learning process are learning tasks and self-assessment task as well as the peer assessment feedback.
Planning the development of pedagogical competence is a part of the Personal Learning Planning in the beginning of the studies.
